Cognitive impairment has been known as a common consequence of brain inflammation. Long-term potentiation (LTP), the generally accepted cellular mechanism for memory formation in the mammalian brain, has been shown to be suppressed by inflammation. Studies have shown that angiotensin II (Ang II) through the Ang II type 1 receptor (AT1R) has a role in brain and peripheral immune system communication and brain inflammation.
